Heavenly Father,

We confess that, both as a nation and as individuals, we have lost sight of the true meaning of Christmas. We’ve prepared our homes instead of our hearts. We’ve decorated our mantles with lush greenery instead of remembering the dried straw on which Jesus lay. We’ve perused cookie recipes instead of immersing ourselves in the Word of God. We’ve shared greeting cards and gifts without sharing the Good News. We’ve wished our neighbors “Happy Holidays” without wishing them “Merry Christmas!” We’ve chased an emotion instead of seeking the Truth.

Please forgive us and guide us as we endeavor to put Christ back into Christmas!

In Christ’s Name, we pray.

Amen.
